History Of Snow Joe

The origin of Snow Joe goes back to the year 2001 when the company built its first prototype snow blower, called Model 322 — an electric blower designed for use on patios, sidewalks and steps.

Powered by a 7.5 amp motor specifically designed to move up to 300 pounds (0.14 ton) of snow per minute, the 322 was capable of digging out snow that was 4 inches (10.16 cm) wide and 12 inches (30.48 cm) deep.

What’s more, it was easy to use and environmentally safe. That it gained instant popularity with users thus came as no surprise.

This marked the beginning of the product range that Snow Joe eventually ventured into.

After this, in the year 2005, the company launched another model (similar to the 322) called the 322P. The power and strength of the 322p came with very low maintenance.

The blower was an electric powered model which users found to be very convenient. This, too, went on to gain immense success on popular shopping sites such as Amazon.

The following year, Snow Joe went on to debut its first TV ad campaign to promote its line of popular snow blowers which were fast gaining popularity as sturdy and trustworthy machines.

In the year 2007, the company decided to expand on its product offerings and the SJ620, a larger sized electric snow blower was introduced.

The blower was the company’s answer to other heavy gas-powered snow blowers available in the market at the time and had the capability to throw snow 20 feet (6.1 m) away clearing an 18-inch wide path.

The blower was reliable for small jobs and was considered to be exceptional value due to the minimal effort required to clear short driveways and long stretches of sidewalk.

Comparatively light in weight, the SJ620 was powered with a 13.5 amp electric motor that had the capability to remove upwards of 650 pounds (0.29 ton) of snow a minute.

This was Snow Joe’s landmark moment. From here on, the company was known as a brand that manufactured reliable and durable equipment that could be used even in the heaviest of snow storms.

In 2009, the Sun Joe division took shape.

The first product to hit the market from this end of the company was the MJ401E — an electric lawn mower dubbed as the Moe Joe. Delivering the same power as a gas machine of the same size, the Moe Joe was super convenient. It called for little to no maintenance as there was no need to continuously gas up, tune-up or oil the mower.

The mower was also designed with a convenient disposable bag attached to the rear which could be detached to dispose of the grass clippings. This too instantly grew in popularity as it was well priced, compact, light in weight and electric powered.

The year 2010 saw Snow Joe add numerous products to its catalog and the company now had over 20 products available on the market. They also began expanding their customer base by selling across to Canada.

Besides this, the business was highlighted on CBS News and has since been prominently featured in many renowned media publications. Although electric blowers were around during this time, Snow Joe’s products stood out due to their affordability and the power that each machine was packed with. They were also extremely popular among people with small driveways.

By the year 2011, Snow Joe’s product catalog more than doubled. The company launched over 40 items to its offerings and aimed at providing an assortment of solutions for all lawn care solutions — for the summers and as well as the winters.

These include the Snow Joe SJBLZD Telescoping Snow Broom with Ice Scraper, Snow Joe Shovelution SJ-SHLV01 Back-Saving Snow Shovel, Snow Joe SJBLZD-LED Illum-n-Broom LED Lighted 4-in-1 Snow Broom Plus Ice Scraper, Snow Joe iON13SS 40-volt Cordless Snow Shovel with Rechargeable Ecosharp Lithium-ion Battery, 13-Inch, Snow Joe 323E 13-Inch 10-Amp Electric Snow Shovel, SnoBrum Original Snow Removal Tool and the Snow Joe RJ204M 21′ Twist-n-Lock Telescoping Snow Shovel Roof Rake with 6″ by 25″ Poly Blade.
