It’s clean running, quiet, light and powerful, plus it comes with a great 2-year warranty that offers complete peace of mind.

There are no cords, gasoline or regular engine maintenance issues to worry about either.

Starting is a lot easier too, the brushless motor starts every time, no matter what the weather.

The only decision to make is which model to buy as there are three different versions:

Husqvarna ST224P 24-Inch 208cc 2-StageSnow Thrower

Our next recommendation is from the Husqvarna ST200 range and is a great example of a modern gas powered snow thrower.

This snow thrower from Husqvarna is a bit of a beast, it has to be said and you can check out our full review of the Husqvarna 2 stage snow blower here.

That 24-inch-wide cut is the best size for all-round use and will make quick work of a large driveway. The impressive amount of torque means it can chew through most piles of snow and ice with relative ease.

With heated handles and power steering, it has been built for a comfortable and dependable operation whatever the weather.

Starting is easy too with an electric starter to get it going on the coldest of days. A traditional hand pull recoil is provided for when not in reach of a power outlet.

If you need a snow blower that can handle large areas with a smooth drive and handling, look no further than the Husqvarna ST224P.

Poulan PRO PR270 27-Inch 2-Stage Snow Thrower

Our next recommendation is another wide cut machine, this time from Poulan, who pride themselves on providing great value machines at affordable prices.

No products found.

The PR270 is actually made by Husqvarna and is similar to the ST230P model above but without the bells and whistles.

This basic machine is a rugged and capable piece of kit though and still has everything you need to tackle deep snowfall.

The main features of the Pro PR270 include:

• 254cc 4-stroke engine delivers powerful performance.

• Clearing width of 27 inches

• Clearing height 12 inches

• Intake height 23 inches

• 9.5 pounds/foot of torque

• Halogen headlight

• Push button electric start with recoil backup

• Height adjustable handles

• Friction disc transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse speed.

• Large 15″ deep tread tires handle well in deep snow.

• Remote chute and deflector controls.

• Adjustable skid shoes

• Some assembly required (easy)

• Two-year warranty

You can read our full review of the Poulan snow thrower here, but as a quick summary, this model is a real workhorse without the frills.

It has all the features you really need though on a snow blower with the power to muscle through deep snow up to 12 inches deep.

The 9.5 lbs of torque is more than enough to cope with cutting a 27-inch path and with the 15″ wheels on later models, traction is no problem either.

Cutting out some of the non-essential features has allowed for this model to be a little cheaper than other comparable models. Later models also now come with a halogen headlight which is a bonus if you need to clear snow after dark.

Briggs and Stratton 1696610 Light-Duty Two-Stage Snowblower

The final model of our four recommended two stage snow blowers is one from the well-known manufacturer, Briggs and Stratton.

Briggs and Stratton 24 inch Snowblower
  • 24 Inch wide clearing path with a 20 inch intake height
  • Powerful 950 snow series 208cc Engine for 9.5 foot pounds of torque

This model is marketed as a light duty snow blower and has a price tag much lower than the other two gas powered machines featured here.

It’s still plenty powerful for most tasks though and has the following features:

• Powerful 950 Snow Series 208cc 4-stroke engine

• Clearing width of 24 inches

• Clearing height of 12 inches

• Intake height of 20 inches

• 9.5 pounds/foot of torque

• Friction disc drive system with 6 forward and 2 reverse gears

• Equipped with an electric start for effortless starting with recoil backup

• Left side manual crank to rotate chute through 200 degrees

• 3-year limited warranty

• 13 inch wheels with deep tread snow tires

• Reversible steel skid shoes

• Some assembly required (easy)

The Briggs and Stratton 1696610 does not, of course, have the power or clearing capacity of the Husqvarna or Poulan throwers.

It still rates as a very capable snow blower though and you can read our full Briggs and Stratton snow blower review here.

The Light-Duty machine is just right for a homeowner with small to medium driveways and pathways who doesn’t need a big machine.

Throw in the budget friendly price tag and we think this snow blower hits the sweet spot many buyers will find is just right.

Conclusion

You can read through our more in-depth reviews to find out what we think each model is capable of but for a quick guide then the following may help.

If you do not want the hassle of a gas-powered snow blower then there is only one option, the Snow Joe ION24SB 80V Cordless Snow Blower, review here.

This 2-stage blower will work just fine if you have a medium sized driveway and pathways to clear and don’t expect snowfall of more than 12 inches at a time.

The Briggs and Stratton 1696610 would also fit this bill and is your best alternative if you prefer using a gas-powered blower. Full review here.

For larger areas where you may need to clear deeper snow and ice but you have a tight budget then the Poulan PRO PR270 snow thrower is ideal, full review here.

Although only having a 24-inch cutting width, the Husqvarna ST224P 24-Inch 2-Stage Snow Blower is probably the best all-round machine for most people, see our full review here.

This can handle most snow clearing jobs you will ever need to tackle as a typical homeowner. It also comes with some nice features such as heated handles and power steering to make light work of the most adverse conditions.

Whichever you choose, it will make your life a lot easier when the snow hits and you need to clear your driveway fast.
